Murray Hill/Kips Bay

Neighborhood Boundaries: 34th Street to the south and 42nd Street to the north; Madison Avenue to the west and 1st Avenue to the east (Murray Hill); 34th Street to the North and 23rd Street ot the south; Lexington Avenue to the west and FDR Drive to the east (Kips Bay)

Subways: 4, 5 and 6

Architecture: Stately townhouses and pre-war buildings along the side streets with mid and high rise post-war buildings lining the main avenues

What I Like Most About It: Although Murray Hill and Kips Bay may be well known for their bar and pub scenes (there’s a plethora of options lining Lexington and Third Avenues), many non-residents are unaware of the fact that they’re prime neighborhoods for taking in Gilded Era architecture (especially Murray Hill). And arguably, the crown jewel of those buildings is the Morgan Library and Museum located on Madison Avenue, one of my favorite museums in the city (as evidenced by this past post :)). In addition to its stunning side streets, the area has seen an influx of great amenities such as Fairway, Blink Fitness and some trendier new restaurants and bars. It’s central location in Manhattan as well as easy access to Grand Central make the neighborhood a great place to call home base.
