Summer Rewind – Berry & Veggie Picking with Friends @ Fishkill Farms

Despite being a country girl at heart, I didn’t grow up picking fruits and vegetables. I often left that to my dad while I stayed indoors and watched cartoons 🙂 But in the past couple of years, I’ve come to really appreciate where our food comes from and how it gets to our plates. So, to that end, I’ve spent a lot more time at farms here in New York state. One of my favorite farms to visit is Fishkill Farms in Hopewell Junction, NY. During the summer months, they have a wide array of berries, stone fruits and vegetables to choose from. Combined with their farm store (which, by the way, features the most AWESOME black cherry pie I’ve had, like, EVER), it’s hard not to go home with several armfuls of goodies.

During this trip, we came just a wee bit late for raspberries and a scant bit too early for blackberries, which was a little disappointing. But we were able to get some fantastic blueberries and gorgeous vegetables. Plus more pie. We always get pie 🙂 And to top it off, we scored the last pieces of Jamaican jerk chicken from the on site grill. Yes – it was the real deal and it was delicious!!! Looking forward to going back again next summer!

Gorgeous day with my husband (left), wonderful friends and a lovely backdrop
So delicious – especially the white raspberries!
Hittin’ em with da kale!
